------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 single/double crochet is wide. CROCHET INFORMATION: At the beginning of each round of double crochets, replace the first double crochet with 3 chain stitches. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round. At the beginning of each round of single crochets, replace the first single crochet with 1 chain stitch. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch at the beginning of the round. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. COLOR-CHANGE: For a neat transition when changing colors, work the last slip stitch on the round with the new color as follows: Insert the hook into the last chain stitch from the beginning of the round, pick up the strand, make 1 yarn over with the new color and pull it through the stitch. NB: When working with 2 colors, change for the new colour when working last yarn over and pull through on the last double crochet before the next bobble and also lay the strand not being used over the stitches from the previous round. Work around the strand so it is hidden and taken forward. BOBBLE: Work 4 double crochets in the stitch below, change to the background color and work 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet worked (tighten the strand so the bobble is tight and neat, push the bobble a little to puff it up). COLOR-1: Cast on and round 1: Color off white Round 2: Bobbles in color off white, double crochets in color pink sand Rounds 3 and 4: Color pink sand Round 5: Color off white Round 6: Color pink sand COLOR-2: Cast on and round-1: Color off white Round 2: Bobbles in color off white, double crochets in color light sea green Rounds 3 and 4: Color light sea green Round 5: Color off white Round 6: Color light sea green COLOR-3: Cast on and round-1: Color off white Round 2: Bobbles in color off white, double crochets in color pistachio Rounds 3 and 4: Color pistachio Round 5: Color off white Round 6: Color pistachio COLOR-4: Cast on and round-1: Color pearl Round 2: Bobbles in color pearl, double crochets in color moss green Rounds 3 and 4: Color moss green Round 5: Color pearl Round 6: Color moss green COLOR-5: Cast on and round-1: Color pearl Round 2: Bobbles in color pearl, double crochets in color nutmeg Rounds 3 and 4: Color nutmeg Round 5: Color pearl Round 6: Color nutmeg COLOR-6: Cast on and round-1: Color pearl Round 2: Bobbles in color pearl, double crochets in color pomegranate Rounds 3 and 4: Color pomegranate Round 5: Color pearl Round 6: Color pomegranate COLOR-7: Cast on and round-1: Color pearl Round 2: Bobbles in color pearl, double crochets in color bordeaux Rounds 3 and 4: Color bordeaux Round 5: Color pearl Round 6: Color bordeaux COLOR-8: Cast on and round-1: Color nutmeg Round 2: Bobbles in color nutmeg, double crochets in color pearl Rounds 3 and 4: Color pearl Round 5: Color nutmeg Round 6: Color pearl ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- CHRISTMAS BAUBLE – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The baubles are worked in different color combinations. Each bauble is worked in the round, from the center outwards and in 2 halves. The halves are sewn together and filled with wadding. The loop is worked to finish. HALF-BAUBLE: Read COLOR-1 to COLOR-8 in explanations above. Start with crochet hook size 3 MM = US C and the cast-on color in DROPS Muskat. Work 4 CHAIN STITCHES – read description above, and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Follow the colors in your bauble, read COLOR-CHANGE and CROCHET INFORMATION, and work diagram A.1 in the round or follow the written description below. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! ROUND 1: Work 1 chain stitch (replaces the first single crochet), 5 single crochets around the ring, 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch from the beginning of the round. ROUND 2: * Work 1 BOBBLE – read explanation above, in the first/next stitch, change to the background color and work 2 double crochets in the same stitch *, work from *-* 5 more times, finish with 1 slip stitch in the top of the bobble at the beginning of the round. ROUND 3: Work 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet after the first bobble, 3 chain stitches (1 double crochet), work 1 double crochet in the same stitch, * 2 double crochets in the next stitch, then work 2 double crochets together by working 1 double crochet in the same stitch but waiting with the last yarn over and pull through, skip the bobble, work 1 double crochet in the next stitch and pull the last yarn over through all 3 loops on the hook, then work 2 double crochets in the same stitch *, work from *-* 5 more times, on the final repeat do not work the last 2 double crochets but work 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch from the beginning of the round = 30 double crochets. ROUND 4: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 4 stitches, 2 double crochets in the next stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round and change color when working the final slip stitch = 36 double crochets. ROUND 5: Work 3 chain stitches (1 single crochet + 2 chain stitches), skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch, * 2 chain stitches, skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round, change to the background color when working the final slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round. ROUND 6: Work 1 slip stitch around the chain-space, 3 chain stitches (1 double crochet), * work 2 double crochets together by working 1 double crochet around the same chain-space, wait with the last yarn over and pull through, work 1 double crochet around the next chain-space, and pull the last yarn over through all 3 loops on the hook, then work 1 double crochet in the stitch under the chain-space (from round 4) work from *-* to the end of the round, work 2 double crochets together and 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 36 double crochets. When A.1 is finished, cut and fasten the strands. Work the other half-bauble in the same way, but when A.1 is finished cut the strand from the last round leaving a 40 cm = 15¾" end, which is used to sew the 2 halves together. ASSEMBLY: Lay the 2 halves together – making sure the start of the round matches on each half. Start the seam at the beginning of the round and sew together with 1 stitch in the back loop of each stitch all the way round – make sure the seam is not tight. Leave a small opening at the end of the round. Fill with wadding and sew the opening together. LOOP: Hold the bauble so the beginning of the round is at the bottom. Work 1 slip stitch in the top of the bauble, using the same color as the final round on the bauble, work 20 chain stitches and fasten with 1 slip stitch in the top of the bauble. Cut and fasten the strand. |
